It’s not as widely practiced as it used to be, but traveling by car is one of the nicest ways to see the world. The cost of gas has made it much more prohibitive than ever before, where even relatively short trips to the other side of the state can cost well over one hundred dollars in gas. For a group of three or more, however, long distance trips really can be economical, especially if there is a real spirit of adventure involved.

For long distance trips these days, it’s very hard to see the usefulness for the glove compartment full of maps that was so common in the old days. Today’s gps systems and smart phones can offer fairly precise choices in terms of routes, making it difficult to get lost. Vehicles do break down, of course, but even this is changed with technology. Where before one would have to walk to the gas station for a local mechanic, or consult their manual, today’s internet society can download Haynes manuals online and use their web-enabled devices to help troubleshoot.

Computers and cell phone communication have affected the road travelers. Nowadays it’s a lot easier to find things to do in all the small towns on the route by a basic search for local calendars of events. One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is that there’s still nothing better than meeting people on the road and in the city, and asking for personal recommendations for the best places to eat in town, or directions to a local drug store. This is still the stuff that great travel stories are made on, when wrong directions turn out to be the best adventures of the trip, or an unusual recommendation opens doors to new and unusual excitements.

Car travel adventures might be the wellspring of memory for a lot of babyboomer kids, but it doesn’t have to be a thing of the past. A well-chosen path with a lot of room for variations at the last moment can lead to unimaginable new horizons. One might surely find that the best things happen when the worst things happen, and a breakdown can lead to a breakthrough. An oil leak and a quick fix from a honda repair manual online can show that those are still some of the most reliable cars on the market. And small towns are just as charming as they ever were, and the distance between stops is sometimes just enough space to have the best adventure in the world.

In America, the road trip is one of the most common forms of travel. It has become ridiculously expensive to fly on an airplane and by driving to a destination; a lot of money can be saved. Summertime is the most common time for families to take road trips, and while they are fun, it is important to be prepared for the trip.

One of the first things you should think about is maps and directions. Most people have mapping applications on their phones or have a gps of some sort, but it is usually a good idea to have a paper map of the area or printed directions, just in case. Knowing where you are going is very important because it allows you to avoid simple problems and allows you to get there as soon as possible.

Since you will be taking your car, it is critical that you get your car checked out before you go on the trip. Road trips are usually a long endeavor and end up putting a lot of miles onto a car. Before hitting the road, it is a good idea to take it to a mechanic and make sure that the car is running properly and will be able to make the trip. It is also important to check your tires and rims to make sure that they are up for the drive as well. If tires look like they need some air, then fill them up, if you need new tires, you can take the car to somewhere that has tires for sale and have them put on before your trip. There is nothing worse than getting a flat tire on the freeway.

Once you know where you are going and know that your car is up for the drive, then all you need to do is pick up some snacks for the road and be on your way.

There are three simple things that you can do in order to ensure that your vehicle’s tires remain in good condition. Sure the fancy truck rims and cab accessories make it look good, but you need to be sure that your truck is safe to drive. You’d be surprised to know just how many accidents could be avoided if the driver had made sure their tires could perform properly.

The most important thing you can do is to keep the tires properly inflated at all times. This means checking the tire pressure on a regular basis. In addition to making sure that they will perform properly on the road, even in nasty weather conditions, good tire pressure is essential to getting good gas mileage. You can certainly take a few minutes to inflate your tires if it can save you money. If you don’t know what pressure is recommended for your vehicle, check your owner’s manual or the sticker inside your driver’s side door.

Next, you should do a simple inspection of your wheels and tires at least once a week. Some people recommend checking them every time you drive. Find a schedule that works for you and make it a habit. You should check for any damage and look at how worn the tread is. Be sure to check your spare tire is properly inflated and ready for use at the same time.

Lastly, it is important to get your tires rotated regularly. This will ensure that the tread wears evenly on all tires. It can also contribute to better gas mileage as wobbly trucks are inefficient. By rotating your tires you should also see improvements in the ride and handling of your truck.

Tightening the chain on your bike is never any fun no matter how simple it is to do on your bike. However it is necessary to do before every ride and after every eight hours spent riding the bike in order to make sure you aren’t wearing it unnecessarily. Make sure you do it before every ride not after every ride. This will ensure that any tension that is loosened as it sits in its parking spot will be tightened out before you ride instead of tightening it and letting it sit and loosen up again. Like much of the information you will find in your motorcycle manuals you will notice that this is fairly simple and should not take you very long.

The first thing you want to do is put down the kickstand and let the bike sit on that. Depending on how low the bike sits you may feel like this is uncomfortable, but the only way to measure the slack on the chain is to have it sitting upright. If you must make it higher use something like a swing arm stand that will simulate the same thing as the kickstand while leaving the bike in the same general position. If you are looking into buying a bike and don’t have that kind of gear now, you may want to look at the chain when you are thinking about which bike you want to buy.

Look in the repair manuals for the exact measurements you will want to tighten up the chain to. Different bikes will ask for different amounts of slack. Usually the amount of slack in the chain is in a very small range such as 2-3 mm. This means that you will have to be very precise or else let the chain back out again if you go over the small amount. While one might think that the whole chain will have the same amount of slack, this is not true. Some parts will have more depending on where they are. You will want to make sure that all parts of the chain end up within the allowable range for the chain.

This is a good time to lube up the chain as well as tighten it. Once you have adjusted the chains on your bike you are ready to go out for a ride .
