Theatre in Mazatlan Mexico

Well, most people head down to Mazatlan to hang on the beach, sip on cocktails and party all day and night. However, Mazatlan is more cultured than that. There are some other things to do than spend all your time on the beach or in a bar.

Bring along a nice outfit so you can go to the Angela Peralta Theater in style. This theature was built in the early 1870′s as the Rubio Theater. Today it is name the Angela Peralta Theater after the Nightingale of Mexico who was also the most famous opera singer. The people of Mexico adored her and would surround her carriage as she arrived to her hotel. She gave a special performance from her balcony for the fans below. Later, on her stay, she would die from yellow fever. It seems the boat that she traveled on was carrying the sickness and she was infected. She was never able to perform in the theater, she pass away to quickly.

The theater became many things over a hundred years. It was a Vaudeville stage, boxing ring, a movie theater and then a parking garage. Then came the most grave thing when a hurricane destroyed the theater in 1975. The beauty that came out of the ruin was that the people and the city decided to restore the theater and it reopened in 1992.

Now locals and the vistors of luxury mazatlan hotels can come to the theater for all kinds of events. In November they have a music festival that everyone is excited about.
